WIZARDS TAKE ON THE HAMBLETONIANS

By JUSTIN GODINO

On Wednesday May 3rd, the Washingtonville Wizard’s baseball team will play against the Chester Hambletonians at home in a non-league game.  The Wizard’s team is ranked 9,981 in the nation, while the Chester Hambletonian’s baseball team is ranked 7,968 nationally.  The Wizards are also ranked 368 in New York State, while Chester is ranked 286.  The Wizard’s record this year is two wins and ten losses, while Chester’s record this year is four wins and four losses.

JUSTIN GODINO FOR THE WIZARD WEEKLY
Senior baseball player, Brett Kalus, had this to say about how he felt about playing the game, “The team and I feel good about this game; it can go either way. We just have to limit our mistakes and we’ll come out with the win.”  The Wizards are on a two game winning streak so it will be nice if they are able to continue that streak.

The Wizards had junior, Jeremy Gutierrez, who is returning for his second year on varsity, pitch for them against Chester.  The Wizards, unfortunately, lost this game 2-1, which ended their two game win streak.  The Wizards were able to score when Ryan Hendricks, a freshman, hit the ball which allowed Jeremy Gutierrez to score.  These would be the only runs that the Wizards were able to score.  When I asked John Tecklenburg, a spectator at the game, how he thought they played, he responded with, “I thought both teams played to their potential.  Chester was just able to score one more run.”

With the loss in that game, the Wizards record moves to two wins and eleven losses.  The Wizards have their next game in Monroe-Woodbury on May 5th at 4:00.  This is a non-league game but a big rivalry.  Good luck to the boys on the rest of their season.
