TRIVIA NIGHT FOR THE FIGHT

By DANIELLE IMPERATO

On Wednesday December 4th, Washingtonville’s Wizards Against Cancer Club (WACC) held their second annual highly entertaining holiday trivia night. For the price of just five dollars per player, teams were created and students were able to play holiday trivia while also donating to a great cause.  With a total of seven teams, the students at Washingtonville High School had an exceptional time.

Holiday trivia is an event that was created to fundraise and generate awareness for men’s cancer during the well known “No Shave November” initiative. The WACC advisors, Mrs. Lynch and Mrs. Constable, came up with this idea thinking it would be a fun way to, not only get kids together for the holidays, but also to raise awareness of a disease that afflicts so many.  After lasts year’s first event, students expressed how much they enjoyed their time and how all of the advisors’ work had truly paid off.

The trivia questions that were created by Mr. Brown, consisted of  four rounds involving holiday history, pop culture, No Shave November, and many more. Not only were there questions, there were raffles going around for contestants to win even more prizes.  Mrs. Lynch verbalized, “Working with Mr. Brown, I think we really fell back on last year; we knew that we needed prizes and the students took the planning into their  own hands while Mrs. Constable and I gave them guidance along the way.  She went on to express, “They went around to all the different stores and shops around town and got awesome prizes for the winners and Mr. Brown really helped us out by making up the questions. It was a really good collaborative effort.”

Team Labranzo came in first place and then had to have a separate round pitting  each teammate against each other.  Joseph Isseks was the ultimate winner and won a gift card to Bella Luna.  Not to feel completely defeated, his teammates walked away with prizes as well.  Joe expressed with a smile on his face,  “I really was not expecting to win. Seeing the competition we were up against, my group and I were just looking to have fun. However, I did have confidence in my teammates from the start. I believed we had good chances going in.” Joe elobo bvrated, “I feel great that my team and I were able to walk away with the win. It was an overall great team effort and I hope that this event continues into an annual tradition.”

With a great turnout, the Wizards Against Cancer Club is looking forward to continuing this tradition. We hope to see an even bigger and better outcome for the years to come.
