SECOND ANNUAL VOLLEYBALL TOURNAMENT

By JUSTIN GODINO

JUSTIN GODINO FOR WIZARD WEEKLY

The second annual ‘School Wide Volleyball Tournament’ took place on Thursday, March 2nd.   For those who are unfamiliar with the tournament, it is basically an all inclusive volleyball tournament that allows anyone in the school to participate.  Each team must have six players with a minimum of two girls per team.  The winners of the tournament then go on to play the 2016-17 girls’ varsity volleyball team.  This event was created by Ms. Hall, who in a recent interview with BGTV said, “Every year, a lot of guys have been asking me how they can play volleyball and how they can be a part of the program. So, I thought it would be a good idea to get the whole school involved.”  That is just what she did and it has brought the school together to participate in volleyball in a fun, yet competitive way.

The teams met in the high school gym and began to play at 6:00 pm.  Nick Milani was asked how it felt to be playing.  He responded, “It’s nice to be able to play volleyball with the competitiveness that everyone has tonight, and also for the boys to be able to have an opportunity to play volleyball is great, too.”  At the beginning of the game, the team of Joey DelGardo, Jack Zimmer, Ryan Parzer, Steve Shute, Madison Kaufman, and Meaghan King,  showed something special.  They were dominating all of the other teams, obviously trying their best to get to the finals to play against the 2016-17 girls’ volleyball team.
There was no doubt that ‘The Trumpinators’ were the best team that night.  Their dominance eventually led to them playing the girls’ varsity volleyball team. With the varsity team losing last year to the tournament winners, they definitely wanted to avenge their team. The Trumpinators were going into the game with confidence, almost defeating every other team. Many thought they were going to win.  In the first set, the girls volleyball team beat The Trumpinators with ease with a score of 21-9.  The Trumpinators tried to come back from such a big loss in the second set, but fell short with the score of 21-18.  The 2016-17 girls’ varsity volleyball team won and were able to avenge last year’s team.
