NEW YEAR, NEW ME

By DYLAN SPAULDING

The year of 2017 is now history and 2018 is on the horizon.  It is the time when people all around the globe have begun to make their New Year's resolutions come to fruition.  The students of WHS are no exception to this tradition.  From getting better grades to going to the gym more often, everyone has set their own set of goals and many have the determination to accomplish them.

Like so many others, senior Ian Lynch's resolution is to go to the gym more often.  This past Tuesday, Ian went to Santer Fitness and obtained his very own membership.  The gym is located in the Village of Washingtonville making it easy to access. “This is the first step to getting in shape,”  Ian gasped while running on the treadmill.  Ian plans on going to the gym at least four times a week in order to make his resolution a reality.

Senior Alexa Siciliano’s resolution is to get above a 90 in AP Biology.  This is only going to be achieved through hard work and late nights.  Alexa plans on continuing her biology career in college, as she wants to study to become a nurse.  Success in the AP biology class is based off hard work and the determination to succeed.  Alexa truly believes she has the fortitude to triumph.

The foundation of biology starts this years in AP Biology as she learns the basics of biology.  “My hard work this year will 100% pay off in college when the real work starts,” Alexa confidently stated.  Her plan is to stay after as much as possible and also to have group study sessions with her friends.  Alexa definitely has her work cut out for her in 2018, but she is willing to put in the work knowing full well that it will pay off in the end.

Senior Rylan Toledo’s resolution is to become a better athlete as he has his heart set on playing  college football.  His football career began when he was only six years old when he started playing youth football in 2006.  Rylan has excelled in his high school football career, but to bring his abilities to the college level, he is well aware of the fact that he will have to increase his athleticism.

To achieve this resolution Rylan is attending training sessions and going to nationwide football camps.  Rylan says he needs “to prepare for Division II football, so that's definitely my resolution for 2018.”  Rylan believes he is mentally ready and now all he needs is to do is improve his athleticism to be physically ready as well.

Students of Washingtonville High School definitely have their work cut out for them in the new year.  One thing everyone has in common is that they are working to create a better future for themselves, no matter how big or little their resolutions may be.
