A SWEET TIME TO BE IN WASHINGTONVILLE

By ANDREW FITZPATRICK

ANDREW FITZPATRICK FOR THE WIZARD WEEKLY
On a brisk Tuesday evening in the town of Washingtonville, children from all over  the area flocked the streets in wild pursuit of sweets and treats.  It was Halloween in Washingtonville and, as many are well aware,  Halloween is taken very seriously in this town.

There are a couple of spots that most children decided to visit in order to obtain the most candy possible.  Perhaps the most popular destination was Decker Drive.  Last Tuesday, Decker was packed with children walking up and down the streets, collecting candy.  Homeowners along Decker spent a tremendous amount of money on Halloween candy.  The streets surrounding Decker, including Capital Drive, Clinton Drive, and Somerset Drive, were home to an abundance of trick or treaters as well.

Trick or treaters carried bags, buckets, pillow cases, or whatever they could get their hands on to collect their candy.  When their evening stroll around the development was complete, their bags were stuffed with sweets and goodies.  Evy Euvin, a sophomore at Washingtonville High School, went trick or treating and expressed, “It was nice to see everyone in costumes with their friends. I love seeing everyone decorate their houses for the holiday.  I love Halloween!”

There comes a time in life when trick or treating becomes a thing of the past and students begin new Halloween traditions.  At this time, students begin taking their younger siblings trick or treating, handing out candy, or creating new memories with their friends.

Most high school students, like senior Parker Gallacher, spend their Halloween handing out candy.   Parker exclaimed, “I handed out Sour Patch Kids, lollipops, Swedish Fish, M and M’s, Kit Kats, and my all time favorite, Jolly Ranchers.”  This was the first year that Parker decided not to go trick or treating, and expressed, “There had to have been hundreds of kids that came to my house.  I’m glad I could make their Halloween experience a good one.”

Halloween is always an exciting evening for the children in Washingtonville due to the town’s great efforts to keep the residents safe while making memories with friends.  Hopefully the Halloween traditions in Washingtonville continue so that future generations can also enjoy this special night.
