STEWART AIRPORT TO HOST MISSION 15’S “PRE-FLIGHT SEND OFF” AND “WELCOME HOME RALLY”

By ROBBIE STRATAKOS

This Saturday, April 8th, Stewart International Airport will host the Hudson Valley Honor Flight and Welcome Home Rally to celebrate the brave men and women who have served their country. This flight will be no ordinary takeoff and the rally will be something to remember.

Taking off at 9:30 in the morning, the pre-flight send off (Mission 15) will fly veterans from both World War II and the Korean War to Washington D.C.  This flight will honor those who put their country before themselves in times off need. This group of veterans will also consist of two veterans from the Vietnam War.

After the long day of appreciation, the war veterans will travel home and land back at Stewart Airport at approximately 8:30 in the evening to attend what is known as the “Welcome Home Rally”.  In fact, Washingtonville’s varsity boys’ baseball team will be in attendance for the rally. The team thinks the rally will be a great event for the public.

“I think it’ll be a great to chance to honor the veterans, and also witness a pretty cool event,” senior infielder Michael Tornillo explained.  Senior catcher Ben Allegro agreed with that notion.
“It’ll be a great chance to support the people who served our country,” Allegro expounded.

Whether you have military roots and/or plan to go into the military or not, attending one, if not both of these events is something to consider. These veterans put their country ahead of themselves, serving time in the force. Coming out to these events on Saturday shows support, not only for them, but for the country as well. If interested in attending, but are unsure of what exactly is taking part during the day, feel free to visit hvhonorflight.com for applications and more information.  You can also call (845) 391-0076.
