THE BOYS’ FINAL HOME GAME

By JUSTIN GODINO

JUSTIN GODINO FOR WIZARD WEEKLY
This week, the boys’ varsity basketball team played Goshen in a non-league game. The Wizards went into this game with a record of 11 wins and 8 losses, while Goshen came in with a record of 11 wins and 6 losses.  The Wizard’s team leaders have remained the same, while Goshen’s Ryan Lutz led the team in two categories: points per game, and steals per game.

The Wizards went into this game with confidence, considering they just came off a 63-43 win  over Minisink Valley.  Another factor that gave the team confidence was that Goshen is usually not a class A school because the school is so small.  For example, in football, Goshen is a class C school, and while the Wizards are class AA.  These attributes could have helped the team gain momentum and ultimately helped them win the game.

The Wizards held the lead throughout the entire game. There was really not much excitement in this event, seeing as it wasn't as close as previous games, but it was still good to see them pull out with the win. Something that the Wizards have been struggling with all season is the ability to actually finish the game.  When they go into the third quarter, it seems as if they are a step behind their opponent, no matter how good they were doing beforehand.  However, this game was different as Goshen did start to close the gap, but The Wizards were able to stop them every time.
The game ended with a score of 60-51 with Washingtonville being the winner.  Washingtonville’s P.J. Morais had 23 points and 16 rebounds; Brendan O’ Leary had 18 points, 5 assists, and 4 steals; and Ryan Johnson had 11 points and 12 rebounds.  In the end, both teams played very well against each other, but The Wizards were just able to pull out with the win. Their record now becomes 12 wins and 8 losses while Goshen’s record moves to 11 wins and 7 losses.
