The Village of Washingtonville, located in the town of Blooming Grove, New York was first settled in 1731. Community buildings such as the historic Moffat Library and The Brotherhood Winery, which is known as the oldest winery in the United States, has made this village a frequent stop for people to enjoy the scenery.  Modifications in the past have contributed to the warm feeling that Washingtonville offers.

Washingtonville Village Trustee, Joseph Bucco, explains, “To my knowledge, the only beautification for the Village of Washingtonville has been to plant flowers in the center square of the village. There was also a purchase of banners for power line poles welcoming people downtown.” While these are two positive aspects, there is still more to do in the town to make Washingtonville a more enjoyable place to hang out.

Many communities, including Washingtonville, are constantly working towards a new and improved town. According to Mr. Bucco, “I am working with several groups throughout the village for the beautification of the village. Plans include revitalizing the center of the village with planting of trees along the street line, paving some areas of the sidewalk, delineating crosswalks in the street, placing new signage throughout this area, and installing new lighting in the village square area.”  With the help of the community service club in the Washingtonville’s high school, these plans are becoming more real.  Bucco explains what contributions have been made. “There will be some village monies spent on some of the minor items, but I will be seeking out grants from both the state as well as federal agencies for most of the improvements.”  Washingtonville is a great place to hang out already, but people are working to make Washingtonville an even better place, not only to only hang out, but to enjoy.
