ADOPT A FAMILY PROGRAM BRINGS JOY TO LOCAL FAMILIES

By ANDREA SALADINO

ANDREA SALADINO FOR WIZARD WEEKLY
During the holidays, there are so many opportunities to help out the people in your very own community. One of these chances is to get involved in the Adopt-A-Family Program. Every year during the holidays, Washingtonville High School is in charge of a program called Adopt-A-Family. Adopt-A-Family is a wonderful chance to give a local family in the community a memorable holiday. It is a holiday giving program designed to help low-income families celebrate the holiday season by connecting them with local businesses, organizations and individuals who "adopt" them and personally deliver holiday gifts and food to their homes.

In the high school alone, many different clubs and departments have decided to participate and adopt a family: Safe School Ambassadors, Student Coalition, the Special Education Department, the Math and Science Departments, the Guidance department, the Foreign Language Honor Society, and the Community Service Club, just to name a few. The members of the club go out on their own time and buy gifts for their adopted families.  They wrap the gifts and, finally, the gifts get delivered to the families in need. A total of fourteen families were adopted in Washingtonville High School alone. Adopt-A-Family is an amazing program to get involved in. The feeling you get knowing that you provided a family in need with a holiday they will never forget will truly be
an unforgettable feeling.
