WHO DONE IT?

By KAITLYN METICHECCHIA

Everyone loves a good murder mystery, but how often do people laugh while trying to solve them?  The Masque and Mime Society’s annual fall straight play, The Musical Comedy Murders of 1940, aims to ensure audiences do just that.  As the only straight play of the year, Masque and Mime members are gearing up to impress playgoers with this comedic thriller.

For those who do not know, a straight play and a musical are two different entities.  In a nutshell, a straight play is a non-musical play that may incorporate some music, but the music is not the focal point.  Since Masque and Mime only puts on one straight play each year, it is crucial for students to perform their absolute best in order for the show to be a success.

Co-Advisor and Costume Director of Masque and Mime, Mrs. Daniella Denaro, explained,   “Masque and Mime is generally known for our musicals, but the straight play allows students to portray a different type of dramatic entertainment.  These shows are often plays that have done extremely well on Broadway and are just as entertaining as our musicals.  This play is funny, suspenseful, and a terrific showcase of the talent at WHS.”

As spectacular as Masque and Mime musicals are, this production is a refreshing break. It not only allows students to explore different aspects of theater, but gives audiences a chance to see a different  side of Masque and Mime.

Being that this is the last fall show before the big spring production, it is imperative that The Musical Comedy Murders of 1940 does well.  The profit made from this show will go back to the society to assist with the funding of future productions.  It would be a shame for people not to see this show, considering the fact every student involved has put into it an enormous amount of effort.  Assistant Stage Manager, Kara Graziano, expressed, “People should see the straight play because everyone worked really hard on it- cast and crew.  It’s also fun because you can try and piece together the mystery yourself.”

The Masque and Mime Society will present this murder mystery Friday, November 17th and Saturday, November 18th at 7 p.m.  Tickets can be purchased from Mrs. Davis in the guidance office, or at the box office before the show.  Tickets are $7 or $6 with a non-perishable food item.

Do you think you have what it takes to solve the murder?  Well, come out and support your fellow Wizards while getting to enjoy a great production.
