FALLING FOR FASHION

An Editorial By BROGAN JOHNSON

BROGAN JOHNSON FOR THE WIZARD WEEKLY
Although it has technically been fall for over a month, the weather is just beginning to corporate and it is finally starting to feel like fall.  For many students at Washingtonville High School, fall is their favorite season due to the changing leaves, apple picking, fall foods and, most importantly, fall fashion.

As soon as the leaves start to turn, students are eager to bust out their favorite boots, sweaters and flannels.  This season, however, it has been extremely difficult to start embracing fall fashion due to the temperature fluctuations throughout the day.  In the morning it can be a frigid 40 degrees while in the afternoon, it can heat up to almost 70 degrees.  Going from shivering to sweating in a matter of hours makes it a nuisance to find an outfit to accommodate both temperatures.

For many students like myself, I have been attempting to begin incorporating fall aspects into my wardrobe even if I am sweltering at the end of the school day.  Vests are a perfect fix for the indecisive weather because you can always take off this layer if you get too warm.  This is why my go-to fall pieces are usually vests; you can never go wrong with throwing one on to keep you warm and elevate your look.

Gianna Dugan, a fashion forward junior at WHS, usually begins incorporating fall looks into her wardrobe “when it gets chilly and the leaves start to change colors.”  Gianna expressed,  “My favorite fall look is turtlenecks.  They’re my go-to along with scarves that hang.”  Gianna loves the array of colors the changing leaves display in the fall, so it makes perfect sense that she despises when people wear one color in different shades.

Another WHS student and self proclaimed fashionista, Tarek Abu-Zeid, exclaimed that his biggest fashion pet peeve is when students wear “wrinkly clothing or when they tuck in a simple t-shirt.”  Tarek avoids fashion disasters like these by wearing his “favorite fall looks, such as jeans or khaki pants with a nice button down or long sleeve cotton shirt.”  I think it is extremely refreshing to see guys as, well as girls, participating in fall fashion trends instead of wearing sweats every day.

Thankfully, Mother Nature has finally boarded the fall train making the weather perfect for, not only fashion, but fall activities as well.  I cannot wait to be surprised by unexpected trends that will begin sprouting up among students.  Hopefully winter doesn't come too early, stripping students away from their favorite fall fashions.
