A CATCHY HOLIDAY THEMED CONCERT FOR ALL AGES HERE AT THE HIGH SCHOOL

By SARA NUNEMAKER

The Music Department at Washingtonville High School is radiating with talent. To prove that, the chorus groups will be putting on a winter concert on December 14th at 7:00PM. Mr. Wurster and all of his students have been working extremely hard to make sure they put on the best show they are capable of. The concert will be a nice way to get people in the holiday spirit. Not only will classical songs be performed on the big night, but holiday music will be performed as well. The chorus concert is sure to be a perfect way to kick off the holidays. Hopefully people will come out to, not only support Washingtonville’s music students, but to have a night filled with catchy tunes and fun.

Chorus isn’t all about singing. It’s about learning how to work well with others, learning how to perform, and forming bonds through music. Music is extremely powerful in the sense that it can bring people together. The songs sung by the choirs are chosen by Mr. Wurster. He likes to pick challenging songs for his students because he knows they are capable of performing them. If you didn’t know, there are three choir groups in our high school: concert choir, treble, and chamber. All three groups are outstanding in their own way, and this will definitely be evident at the upcoming concert. For the past three months, all three groups have been working arduously to make sure they can put on a great show for their family, friends, and peers.

SARA NUNEMAKER FOR WIZARD WEEKLY
Many members of the chorus program have been singing in a choir since it was first offered in elementary school. That’s what makes the bond so unbreakable. It really does make a difference in performance when a choir can act as a team, and at Washingtonville High School, it’s more of a family. When interviewing treble chorus member, Jenna Fusco, she said, “I have been in chorus since the first grade and it’s always been a fun alternative way to express myself.” Many chorus members probably feel the same because music is a way for people to express themselves. When asked what her favorite part of chorus is, Fusco responded, “Expanding my knowledge of music. Mr. Wurster demonstrates examples from the beginning of each class and thoroughly explains what is not understood.” Mr. Wurster goes out of his way to make sure his students are all on the same page, and always takes the time to explain everything in detail. When Jenna Fusco was asked if she would recommend chorus to a friend, she replied with a definitive, “Yes! It is a very comfortable environment, especially for someone who enjoys music.”

Anybody who likes to sing or learn about music should look into joining chorus in the upcoming years of high school. Jenna Fusco was also asked if she believes that Wurster did a good job preparing students for the upcoming winter concert and she passionately said, “Yes, he is very strict about practicing, but not a harsh strict, more like a professional kind of strict. He is very good at what he does.” Wurster, along with every member of the chorus, is very excited about the upcoming winter concert.  They can’t wait to put on an amazing show for the community.

Washingtonville High School’s Music Department is blessed to have so many talented students that take part in the program, and the only way you will be able to see how talented they truly are is if you come on out on December 14th. All three chorus groups would be thrilled to perform in front of a big crowd, and that’s only possible if you bring everyone you know to the show!
